Dear Chatterton Families,

Red Ribbon Week is considered to be the nation’s longest-running and largest drug abuse prevention campaign.  Most every elementary school in the country celebrates the tenets of RRW.  Students and staff are wearing red today AND classes will speak about the idea of making “healthy choices.”  I highlight the concept of good decision making.  Making good decisions as a five-year old will undoubtedly translate into being kind to others as a seven-year old, which will likely lead to caring for those less fortunate as an eleven-year old, which will enable the teenager to say “no” to the many distractions, including drugs, that may come their way down the road.  So, while pledging to refrain from drug use during Red Ribbon Week may seem like a reach for the little ones, the positive mindset, self-confidence, and good decision-making skills we grow within them are the building blocks for a healthy teenage and adult lifestyle.

For those looking for a RRW family activity, I recommend this pledge:  Please see below the activities for the week and please know that I am pulling rank and declining my personal involvement in pajama day.
