PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

Photos Re-take Day – Photo retake day is Tuesday, November 26th for anyone who would like to redo their photos or missed the day.  It is also Grade 6 yearbook club photos.  Please contact Michele Leo at mschw1@aol.com if you have any questions.
We look forward to seeing many parents at Parent-Teacher Conferences this week.  Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.  There is no school for students on Wednesday.  Be on the lookout for Report Cards in your child’s backpack on Monday afternoon.
The Chatterton Student Council is sponsoring a Thanksgiving Food Drive and Holiday Toy Drive. In this time of need, it is important to remember there are families that are less fortunate. All food donations will be given to local families in need and all toys will be given to the Merrick Kiwanis Organization to be distributed to children in need.  We are asking for the Chatterton community to support these worthy causes by sending in a donation of a non-perishable food item or new toy.
As we approach Thanksgiving, I began to think about GRATITUDE.  Please enjoy the article, 12 Tips for Teaching Children Gratitude https://www.healthychildren.org/English/family-life/Community/Pages/12-Tips-for-Teaching-Children-Gratitude.aspx by Kathleen Berchelmann.  I included the tips for you below, but the value is in the explanations and examples discussed in the article.  I found that I related to some of our traditional favorite ways to promote gratitude, while also gathering some new ideas.
Tricks for Teaching Children Gratitude and Creating a More Joyful Home:
1.      Surprise them! Avoid too many choices.
2.      Talk about the best parts of your day.
3.      Teach your children their past.
4.      Help your children serve someone who does not “need” charity.
5.      Focus on the positive, all day.
6.      Say “Thank you.”
7.      Lead by example.
8.      Teach “‘Tis better to give than to receive.”
9.      Make time for chores.
10.  Let big kids take care of little kids.
11.  Give experiential gifts, not stuff.
12.  Monitor your children’s media.
We wish all families a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with their family and friends!  There is no school Wednesday November 27th until Friday November 29th for Thanksgiving recess.  We look forward to seeing everyone back in school on December 2nd!
