Dear Chatterton Families,

We have finished week eight, and we want to thank our students, staff, administrators, parents, and community, all of whose hard work and vigilance has gotten us safely to this point.

I hope that you and your children mindfully enjoyed Halloween 2020.  Almost everything in 2020 seems different, but with enough creative thought, not everything has to be less enjoyable.  On Friday, teachers, TAs, and the children creatively enjoyed Halloween.  Friday night’s PTA Parade of the Jack-o-Lanterns was absolutely great. As we grow through this pandemic, accepting many of these temporary realities, we pick up some ideas that may very well outlast Covid.  In fact, I am betting that this is not the last time we will see The Parade of the Jack-o-Lanterns.

On Friday, November 6, Katie Schumacher, founder of the Don’t Press Send campaign will be presenting virtual assembles to our 4th, 5th and 6th graders.  It is an informative and important presentation about navigating through various media outlets.

During this assembly the students will learn the following:

  • The importance of respect and responsibility in regard to online communication
  • The importance of privacy
  • The dangers of anonymous sites
  • The importance of open communication with an adult regarding online interaction
  • How to manage the pitfalls of social media

The Merrick schools, in partnership with the council of PTAs, continues to offer the Merrick children meaningful and purposeful opportunities to learn and grow.

Upcoming this week:

  • As a reminder, Merrick schools will be closed tomorrow, November 3 for Election Day.  Don’t forget to vote!
  • Friday, which is the first Friday of the month, will be Chatterton’s Spirit Day for the month of November.

Enjoy your week…
