PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

As part of our character education program, Chatterton School will be celebrating National Random Acts of Kindness Week from February 10th – February 14th.   Our goal this year is to beyond kindness and to show respect for people, living things and our Earth every day!  Below see the daily calendar and encourage your children to participate during this special week. Please have a discussion with them about kind acts they might do during the week.

Monday, 2/10 – We will be doing our 2nd school-wide No Place For Hate activity.  Ask your child about the activity they participated in today!  This is also a great time to ask how your child has been doing with their NPFH Pledge commitment and their Tree of Respect promise.

Tuesday, 2/11– Create a bookmark to donate to a friend, the librarian, or a teacher. Be creative with it! Cut cardstock into strips and decorate to your heart’s content with drawings, designs or your favorite quote.

Wednesday, 2/12 – Write a compliment or inspirational message on a post it and either give it to someone, stick it on their desk, or post it around the school.

Thursday, 2/13 – At any point during the day, read a book or a passage from a book that has a theme revolving around kindness. Talk to your child about how it can be applied in their lives. Create a Kindness Calendar during recess. Fill in all 31 days for March about different acts of kindness you can do each day.

Friday, 2/14 – Mix It Up Day! Start a conversation with a new friend today! Ask them about their favorite things, what do they like to do, where have they traveled. Wear RED to show kindness, love and compassion for all.

There is a Board of Education meeting taking place on Tuesday, February 11th at 7:15PM in the Louis Kruh Conference Room (behind Lakeside School).  There will be a presentation on Mental Health Education in the Merrick School District.

On Thursday, February 13th, students from Calhoun High School will be visiting with our 6th grade students in a Atheltes Helping Athletes program.  The purpose is for high school role models to inspire students to make healthy choices, remain active and get involved in school activities and programs.  This is the first of three visits that will be taking place this school year!

Friday, February 14th is the 100th day of school!  We look forward to seeing our kindergarten students dressed in the 100th day spirit on this day and celebrating all that everyone at Chatterton has learned in the past 100 days of school!

School will be closed from February 17th – February 21st for winter recess.  We hope all families have an enjoyable and safe winter break!  See you back on Monday, February 24th!
