Principal’s Corner-

New York State English Language Arts was administered this week, with a few technical challenges, but largely successfully.  The tests, which were administered on the computer, had some technical glitches on Tuesday which caused for the State Education Department to suspend testing on Wednesday, which was the second day of our grades 3 and 4 assessment. Testing resumed on Thursday and continued on Friday without any difficulty.  We will make up the lost day of testing on Monday (4/8), with the second part of the grade 3, 4 exam administered in the morning.

An Invitation from the Bellmore-Merrick Director of STEM Education:

Please join us at the STEAM Career Fair (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) in the Kennedy High School gymnasium on Thursday April 11, 2019 from 6-8pm.   All students and families are invited to come meet STEAM professionals and learn about a wide variety of careers in health science, computer science, engineering, environmental protection, aerospace, art and design and many more.  On hand to talk about careers and opportunities will be many STEAM experts and leaders, including: Erica Grow, a meteorologist on NBC Storm Team 4, and Mike Spisak, an IBM Distinguished Engineer and “Master Inventor.” Over 60 professionals will have table presentations and interactive displays to learn about and try.  We are especially excited about our visiting professionals from the world of Art and Design to inform and inspire students to the full range of STEAM possibilities in their college and career choices.  Also at the Career Fair this year, we will be hosting our first in-district robotics competition with VEX IQ teams from Grand Ave and Merrick Ave middle schools and the newly formed high school VEX EDR Robotics team.  Our medical scrabble fundraiser tournament returns as well.
