I knew from my first assignment at Chatterton, but I need to say…the Chatterton community is special.  I have spoken with scores of parents and staff during the past few weeks, and each and every conversation has been thoughtful, kind, and community-centered…all with the children at the forefront of the discussion.

It’s hard to put into words what we have accomplished together as a community.  I know I speak for the faculty and staff in saying that we are committed to remaining focused on the challenges which lie ahead and that we will continue to do what is best for the children of Chatterton School.

We are incredibly excited to welcome back all of our students this week.  We can’t wait to see EVERYONE in school EVERYDAY beginning today, MONDAY 9/21!  We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during arrival and dismissal.  With the entire student body in starting today, we know things may slow down a bit initially, but I am confident we will adjust quickly.

The first two weeks of school were fantastic.  They allowed us to ease back in after our 6 months away, and we were able to adjust to our new procedures. The children were absolutely outstanding.  They demonstrated their understanding of classroom and building routines, procedures, and materials, and friendships began to form throughout the building.  It was great to be around them.  I’ve learned that there is no better feeling for a principal than walking down the hall and having a 5 year-old wave hello.

Our K-3 teachers reported how wonderful it was to see many familiar, and some new, faces at our K-3 Open House last week.  Below is the schedule for Open House for grades 4 through 6 on Tuesday, September 22nd (tomorrow).  We look forward to seeing many Chatterton parents on Zoom with our classroom teachers.

Grade 4: 7:45 PM to 8:30 PM

Grade 5: 7:00 PM to 7:45 PM

Grade 6: 6:15 PM to 7:00 PM

Zoom links will be sent home early tomorrow for tomorrow evening.

Great Student News:

One of our students was recently featured in the Newsday “LI Acts of Kindness” section.  Shane Gavigan was the focus of a story on how HE became the teacher for the music therapist who works with him.  The therapist, Rebecca Auty, happens to be a graduate of Chatterton!  Enjoy the story here: Shane

Two of our students, Lily and Sophie Turner, worked with their parents to help support a local hunger relief non-profit.  You can read about their work here: Sophie & Lily

We are very proud of all three of these “seniors.”  Other students who have accomplished similarly great things outside of school can alert Mr. Seinfeld at

Lastly, please note- PTA and SEPTA memberships may be completed online.  I encourage all families to join the PTA & SEPTA!

This is FREE and EASY money for our PTA to put towards school improvements and events for our children.  All you have to do is download the free app, clip/scan your store receipt with any Box Tops brands and the money goes straight to our school account. We will continue to award our top classes who submit the most clipped Box Tops during the year! Please make sure all clippings sent in with your child are clearly labeled with your teacher’s name in a baggie/envelope so that your class gets credit towards a prize.  Since July, Chatterton has already earned $32 (that’s 320 Box Tops!) so keep it going!  For more information or questions, please contact Chatterton’s Box Tops Coordinator, Samantha Pucella, at
