Principal’s Corner –

Our first week back to school was such a success!  It was so wonderful to see all the children smiling and happy to be back!  Thank you to all the families for such a smooth arrival and dismissal process for the first week!  We look forward to another wonderful week ahead!

The Federal Government proclaimed September 11th “Patriot Day”, a national day of remembrance and service. To honor the date, we would like all students and staff to wear red, white and blue on Monday, September 11th, to show our solidarity.  We will share a patriotic poem during morning announcements and will pause as a school community for a moment of silence.

Students will participate in their first bus drill of the year on Tuesday, September 12th.  Teachers will be reviewing the safety procedures and rules for the bus with all students.

Special notices –

Thank you Christine Cairo and all others who helped organize the Welcome Back Picnic.  It was an enjoyable evening and wonderful start to the 2017-2018 school year for Chatterton families, teachers and staff.

PTA MembershipWe encourage everyone to become a PTA member.  Every class that has 100 percent of families registered as PTA members will receive extra recess with their class!!!  Membership is $12 for first member and $8 for each additional member.  In order to join you will need to follow this hyperlink:  you will not be able to attend PTA sponsored field trips or events if you are not a PTA member. Thank you!  These membership fees help to sponsor functions such as: cultural arts events, Peace and Friendship day, class field trips and many other great events for your children throughout the school year!

Board of Ed Meeting – The Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 12th.  The board meeting will take place at 7:15 P.M. in the Louis Kruh Conference Room located in the Central Administration Building located at Levy Lakeside School.

Class Captain Meeting – There is a Class Captain Meeting on Wednesday September 27th at 6:30 PM in the APR.  Class captains will be contacted prior to the meeting.  You must be a PTA member to hold these positions. 

PTA Meeting – Join us for our first monthly PTA meeting!  It’s at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, September 27th in the APR immediately following the class captain meeting.   Hear from Mrs. Bermas and Mr. Jackson about exciting changes to the school building as well as the PTA events planned for the year.

PTA Lunch Service – Lunch service begins Monday, September 11th

Online lunch program is BOONLI.  This year we have a newly user friendly online ordering system-  Instructions for registration were included with your child’s placement letters. No late orders can be accepted.  If you have any questions or problems with registration or ordering, please contact Thanks for your cooperation.

  • Ordering for October is OPEN & closes at midnight Friday, September 15th!

*Lunch Tip:  Order food for the week of 9/12 – 9/16 for your child to try.  You have until midnight on 9/16 to place your lunch order for the entire month of October.  Use their feedback to help determine what they like.  Once placed, orders cannot be canceled because your child does not like or want them.

Stop & Shop Fundraiser – Stop & Shop A+ Rewards program – Welcome to the start of a new school year and the opportunity to again earn money for our school PTA.  Simply log on to or call 1-877-275-2758 to register your Stop & Shop card.  Registration is now open and Chatterton’s ID # is 12028.  New! If you registered last year you do not need to re-register.  You can log in and verify the school assignment.  Remember to have your family & friends register their cards too!  Thank you for your support!

Box Tops for EducationIt’s time to send in all those Box Tops you clipped and saved during the summer! Over the last three years, Chatterton has submitted over 25,000 Box Tops and earned more than $2,500!  We will have THREE submission deadlines this school year, and first, second and third place winnings announced and prizes distributed.  Please send all clipped Box Tops in a baggie or envelope in your child’s backpack and labeled with your child’s teacher’s name so that each Box Top is counted towards the total class numbers.  Our deadlines for submission are October 13th, February 16th and June 8th.  Winning classes will be awarded extra time at gym/recess, lunch outside in the P&F Garden, a craft activity, etc. and a GRAND PRIZE will be awarded in June.  Each Box Top raises 10 cents for Chatterton and amounts to hundreds of dollars for our school that the PTA will use towards things to benefit our children. Please note the expiration dates and cut on the dotted lines.  Nothing expired or ripped will be counted!  Box Tops are included on hundreds of products including Hanes clothing, Betty Crocker baking goods, General Mills cereals, Yoplait yogurts, Kleenex and Scott paper goods and Green Giant vegetables, just to name a few.   For more information and a list of participating products, please visit

Happy Birthday! – Each month, on the bulletin board in the main hallway, the PTA posts the names of children who are celebrating birthdays.  In order to make the board more exciting and fun, we would love to include a recent photo to go beside each child’s name.  Please send in a photo to your child’s teacher in an envelope labeled “PTA birthday photo”, include your child’s name, birthday month, teacher and grade.  In addition, please label the photo with your child’s name and birth month.  Please submit by October 1.  This photo will not be returned.  Thank you very much!  Pls contact Maria Milito 516-835-2209,
